March Madness Title Game Preview

The March Madness betting tournament is already a week old, and just like that sports fans, we are down to the final 16 teams of the tournament. It felt like it was only yesterday that we were watching the college basketball betting conference tournaments to determine the seeds of the tournament. Yet now after are brackets have been spoiled by some of the remaining 16 teams, we are stuck trying to predict who will play in the March Madness finals. Here is our prediction for this year's two contestants on April 4, 2011 for the National Title.

This year's March Madness final will feature two teams from the Mountain West Conference, as the San Diego Aztecs and BYU Cougars will battle it out for National supremacy. This year's March Madness seeding process, allowed for the possibility of these two teams face off for the second championship related game between them this season.

It was only a couple of weeks ago, that the San Diego State Aztecs led by Kawhi Leonard, were able to exact some revenge on the BYU Cougars led by the nation's top scorer Jimmer Fredette. To say the Aztecs embarrassed the Cougars in the MWC Championship game would be an understatement. As a result of the loss to San Diego State, the Cougars dropped from a possible top seed in the tournament to a fourth seed in the Southeast region.

Meanwhile, the San Diego State Aztecs were given a two seed in the West Region. As a result of the March Madness tournament brackets breaking down so that the West Region Champion will face the East Champion in the final four and Southwest champion face the Southeast, it provides MWC fans the opportunity to see the two best teams battle it out for the National title.

If this final does happen, we see Jimmer Fredette the NCAAB version of former NCAAF Florida Gator Tim Tebow, winning his first ever National title. This year the man simply known as Jimmer, has averaged close to 32 points a game and has pretty much put the Cougars on his back all season. On the other side of things, Kawhi Leonard has done the same with the Aztecs, guiding the team to two impressive victories entering the Sweet 16 round for the first time in school history.

March Madness Players To Watch

Earlier this week the NCAA selection committee announced the 68 team field for the 2011 March Madness betting tournament. With several hundred players set to lace up the sneakers for this year's tournament, fans betting on March Madness have many players to keep their eyes on. Here are a few players for you to consider watching.

  • Ben Hansbrough G Notre Dame Fighting Irish - The younger brother of UNC Tar Heel great Tyler Hansbrough, Ben Hansbrough looks to step out of his brother's shadow during the 2011 March Madness tournament. At six foot three 200 pounds, Ben Hansbrough has led the Fighting Irish to a rather impressive record during the 2010-11 seasons. Hansbrough averages 18 points and four assists per game, and his court IQ has allowed the Irish to be ranked as a two seed in the Southwest region of this year's tournament. After such a successful regular season, expectations have never been higher at Notre Dame, and fans should look for Hansbrough to elevate his game to the next level.
  • Terrence Jones F Kentucky Wildcats - Similar to his team, Terrence Jones has managed to fly under the radar entering March Madness play later this week. Jones is a freshman for a Kentucky Wildcats team, that comparable to last season, is full of players expected to be drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. At six foot eight, 226 pounds, Jones is an absolute monster under the post. He averages 17 points and nine rebounds a game, and like Hansbrough, will need to elevate his game in order to be drafted higher in June.
  • Kemba Walker G Connecticut Huskies - At the start of this season, we were part of the group that said Kemba Walker would have a fantastic year. Throughout the season Walker has had many peaks and valleys in his play, yet if the Big East tournament was any indication, Walker is a can't miss prospect. Connecticut lost to Louisville in the Big East final, but if it weren't for Kemba Walker, the Huskies may have been eliminated earlier. Walker similar to Kansas Jayhawks guard Josh Selby has game changing abilities that a lottery team in the NBA is looking for. The March Madness tournament will be Walker's coming out party and he will be the first overall pick in this year's draft.

March Madness Underdogs

In just over a week the March Madness betting tournament will begin, as the first four games made up of the eight bubble teams will begin. With online March Madness betting enthusiasts coming out of the woodwork, we decided that today we would suggest several underdog teams that could make an impact in the tournament. Here are two that come to mind.

  • Belmont Bruins (30 - 4) - The Bruins are a team that has flown under everyone's radar due to being the leader of the Atlantic Sun conference. Still with an overall record of 30 wins and four losses going into the conference tournaments leading up to March Madness, the Belmont Bruins should be a team on your radar for the March Madness tournament.

Led by sophomore guard Ian Clark and center Mick Hedgepeth, the Bruins are one of the scariest teams in the entire NCAA. In fact, since Head Coach Rick Byrd took over at Belmont, they have climbed the rankings from basement dweller to an elite team. Essentially, the Bruins are a dangerous team because they can hang around in a game. What's more, when you win 30 of your 34 regular season games, people should start to notice you.

  • Old Dominion Monarchs (27 - 6 ) - Led by the likes of Frank Hassell and Trian Lliadis, the Monarchs are considered by many experts to be a power six like team playing in a mid major conference. Meaning to say, match the Monarchs up against a team from the Pac 10 or Big 10, and they can stand toe to toe with them.

Over the years, the March Madness tournament has been criticized, because mid major teams have been overwhelmed when facing off with BCS teams. However, when it comes to the Monarchs, this simply won't happen, as the team is made up of some of the best players in the nation. What's more, at a recent mid major tournament, the Old Dominion Monarchs walked out the champions, after holding their opponents without a field goal for the final 10 minutes of the game.
