the American League East the Toughest Division in Professional Sports?

Year after year, MLB fans betting on their favorite teams from the American League East, have been sure of one thing, the division would be battled out between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. For years Canadian fans hoped that the Blue Jays would be able to make a move and return to the glory days of the early 90s where winning pennants were of a second nature. Instead in 2008, after a decade of atrociousness the Tampa Bay Rays made the leap from basement dwellers to World Series runner ups. Not only was this an incredible feat for a once doomed franchise, it also made the AL East an even tougher division, perhaps the toughest in all of professional sports. In the big four sports, history has shown that a team can still make the playoffs and win a championship while having an above average record in the regular season.

On the contrary however, is the AL East division which assures fans and betters alike that all 162 games of the regular season are so vital in making the playoffs. In no other division in any sport, could the third place team win 105 games and still miss the playoffs. Also in no other sport aside from baseball will you see that the fourth place team in the AL East is better than the division winner of the AL West. MLB betting can be tricky especially in a division such as the East, since the teams go hot and cold like a ping pong rally. In the month of April alone, fans were treated to a rarity in all of baseball, as three of the five teams in the East had seven, eight and nine game winning streaks at the same time respectively.
